Border Region – an economic zone
On 20. september 2017, the first advisory board meeting of FURGY CLEAN Innovation took place in Alsion in Sonderborg. Purpose of the meeting was a stronger collaboration of the project with other initiatives and organisations within Schleswig-Holstein and Southern Denmark. As both Carsten Orth Gaarn-Larsen, CEO of CLEAN, and Ulrich Spitzer, deputy chief executive officer of IHK Flensburg, emphasised, it is important to look at the German-Danish border Region as one economic zone.
On both sides of the border focus the innovation strategies on the development of sustainable energy. Therefore the aim of the event was to discuss with affected stakeholders how FURGY CLEAN Innovation can help to improve the collaboration between the stakeholders and bring the existing clusters closer together. They were supported by Mads Bruun Ingstrup, who teaches about the topic cluster-advancement at the SDU in Sonderborg.
All of the participants agreed on the conclusion that this event was only the start of many more events to come and they encouraged the project team to keep working on a cross-border clustermechanism. Among the ministry of economics in Kiel and the administration of the region is another meeting plannend in the near future. After the administration was included in the process in this first step, there will be another advisory board meeting in the first half of the next year, in which the representatives of the clusters and sectors will be advised about a future collaboration and what part FURGY CLEAN Innovation will take thereby.
